Fun is a Force Multiplier: How to Inject More Fun Into Your Business

Fun is force multiplier. We like to have fun at Fervor. Life is much more productive, enjoyable, profitable and impactful if we inject fun into the equation. It’s not overly complicated.

One of our clients, Dovetail, was in our offices a few weeks ago.  Our goal was to work up a solid communications plan that would embody their unique personality and give them a regular reason to connect via email with their clients and fans. It was a brainstorm strategy session.

White board pens flying, coffee in hand, we were off to the races.  Laughter ensued.  We gave each other a hard time. Ideas flowed.  It was awesome.

We landed on a cool weekly email idea that really fit Dovetail’s market. They are a food promotions company that we like to say is “like Match.comĀ® for your brand”.  Dovetail pairs up brands like Captain Morgan and Arizona Iced Tea for cross-merchandising opportunities.  So our idea was a weekly “Happier Hour” email that had fun, snarky facts about their clients and products, sent out during normal happy hour timeframe on a weekly basis.

I was reminded again why fun = greater impact.  It’s because when you are having fun, you create better ideas. Fun is a factor that dramatically increases the effectiveness of ideas (a force multiplier). Better ideas, better business, better relationships, better life. Hey, I’m in on all those.

Here are a few ways to inject more fun into your business:

  • Start with fun people. Vicki, the CEO of Dovetail, is a total blast.  It’s always easier to inject fun when you start with fun people. All Fervor clients have to pass a “beverage test” where we check your fun factor before we let you in the door.  Same goes for our creatives.
  • Motion creates emotion. Get up, get out of the office, move around in the conference room.  You can rarely have a blast sitting still.
  • Set the tone early with coffee and coaches. Fun, creative meetings have elements.  Someone to lead with energy and fun, coffee and snacks. Take one of these elements out and it’s a lot harder to have fun.

Fun is a force multiplier, so take a few minutes to try and have more of it.  It’s worth it.
