Meet Sarah Koci Scheilz
Fervor is marketing made for impact and a key component of helping our clients comes down to the words they use and the message they communicate. We are blessed to have Sarah on our team. She has a passion and gift for composing communication that makes a difference. Meet Sarah Koci Scheilz.
At Fervor, Sarah is: Creative and Content Marketing Strategist
A life of words: “When I was a little girl, I loved to tell stories and I would always ask my mom to write them down for me. Eventually, she got me a tape recorder so that I could capture my stories without her.” Growing up, Sarah always had a passion for writing and at one point had sixty (yes 60) penpals. She says she always wanted to be a journalist and, as the editor of her school newspaper in high school, she honed her craft.
Midwestern girl goes to school: Sarah studied journalism and marketing at the University of Missouri in Columbia. “My dad convinced me to add marketing as a major. It was the most ‘business-y’ choice that didn’t include all of the math.”
Before Fervor: Sarah was on the development team for Cristo Rey Kansas City. “I got to help them get started,” she says. From grant writing, to social media and PR strategy, to even working directly with students on a regular basis, Sarah’s love for nonprofits was front and center in her life and work.
The Craigslist Connection: “Craigslist has led me to a lot of good things,” Sarah states. Primarily, it led her to renting a condo from Fervor’s Lead Digital Strategist, Evan Maxon, which turned into a bev test with Chief Creative Strategist, Mike Farag.
At Home, Sarah is: wife to Seth Scheilz, whom she met in college, and mom to Chaco, their two year-old Westie.
Outside Fervor you’ll find Sarah: with her dog, Chaco. At Loose Park or just around Waldo, Sarah and Chaco like to recharge and exercise with a brisk walk.
Favorite Kansas City restaurant: “Seth & I like to treat ourselves to Gram & Dun from time to time. We happened upon it accidentally and now it is our favorite date night dinner.”
Favorite Kansas City coffee spot: The Roasterie in Brookside. “On Saturday morning walks with Seth & Chaco, we love to sit out on their patio and enjoy the sunshine.”
TV Favorites: The Bachelor & The Bachelorette. “They are kind of my ‘hatewatch’ shows. I hate them but I love them at the same time.”
Reading for impact: The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. “As a creative strategist and content author, I want to avoid the ‘content mill’ mentality,” Sarah says. “I use what’s in there to remind myself how to break through and create quality work.”
What drives Sarah up a wall: being cold. “That’s why you always see me in a cardigan, I’m always cold.”
What Sarah loves: People. Specifically, her friends. Also, she loves to cook. “When I need to unwind, I find refuge in the kitchen. The more difficult the workday, the more challenging the recipe.”
A community she loves: the Junior League of Kansas City, Missouri. Sarah is the co-chair of the sponsorship committee. One highlight of the group is a dinner club, and it has become a group of close friends.
Sarah in a few words… Authentic, positive moxie.
Fervor wouldn’t be Fervor without: Sarah’s passion for words. “We help clients reach their ideal clients with messaging to make an impact. I’ve always loved journalism and storytelling. With Fervor clients, our craft is to help them tell their story.”
