About Ability KC
In 1947, two local organizations—Children’s Therapeutic Learning Center and Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City—opened their doors to serve children and adults with disabilities. Seventy years later, those organizations came together as one: Ability KC. Their mission is to build brighter futures for children and adults with disabilities by providing them with comprehensive educational, vocational and therapeutic services.
Fervor + Ability KC
We’ve partnered with Ability KC for over two years. So, when they came to us to help refine their overall brand messaging, we couldn’t wait to help. Ability KC felt like their messaging wasn’t communicating who they were as an organization. Instead of calling out and owning the things that made them unique, they were trying to be “all things to all people”—and, as a result, made it sound like they didn’t really specialize in doing any one thing well.
To solve their messaging, we dove straight into our signature strategic offering: our Brand Impact Assessment. Over the course of several weeks, we dove deep into Ability KC’s mission, values, and Ideal Advocates™ (the people they most want to reach with their messaging). And we helped them distill what they do—delivering holistic, individualized care for people with disabilities—in a way that gives them a new shared language to use both internally and externally.
Throughout the opportunities we’ve had to partner with Ability KC, we’ve observed a couple of constants. They’re truly passionate about the work that they do. And they’re just plain good at it. Getting to work for organizations that are doing good in the world is why we do what we do, and Ability KC is the perfect example—we love their focus on the local community, their innovative approach to the work they do, and the way they value individuals as a whole. We’re honored to get to do work with partners like Ability KC, and we’re proud to be a part of helping the good they’re doing to grow.
